Avalunas — a spotted Luna flies low over purple grass towards pink trees and red flowers

Work — Browser game · in production

Avalunas

A world you explore as your own Luna. Every berry you pick sends a ripple through the ground, and the land grows around you: lake-lands, forests, highlands and the sea. Then come the plants, then the animals.

01 — The game

Grow a world

You start on a bare purple plain with one glowing berry. Pick it up and a ring races out across the ground; wherever it passes, the land changes.

Three waves follow, one after the other: first the ground, then the plants, then the animals.

Teaser — sound on.

02 — The world

Forests, highlands and sea

Every region has its own plants, light and animals. Everything here is captured straight from the game.

03 — Making of

From concept to creature

The world is full of custom models. For some of the animals I take a faster route: a concept made from a frame of the game, so it matches the world; a 3D model generated from it with Tripo; then in Blender I split it into parts, rig it and animate it before it goes into the game.

This is how the spider crab got there.

04 — Piece by piece

Built in small test worlds

Every part of Avalunas started as its own small test page in the browser: the ground, the ponds, the plants, the lizard, the worm. Once a piece works on its own, it moves into the world.
